Paramount Acting Company
The Paramount Acting Company
The Paramount Acting Company (PAC) is a community theater, sponsored by the City of Burlington/Department of Recreation and Parks. Drawing on the theatrical talent of Burlington and all of central North Carolina, PAC presents a minimum of two summer productions each year at Burlington’s historic Paramount Theater.

PAC’s mission is to provide increased theatrical experiences for actors, technicians and artisans in the Burlington-Triad-Triangle areas, while enhancing the cultural and entertainment life of the area’s residents.

Since it’s founding in 1998, PAC has presented almost thirty productions, ranging from light comedies to original musicals. It has been the producing company for seven world-premiere plays:
  • Cole’s Dairy Lunch: a musical chronicling the events and characters surrounding a real-life Burlington diner.
  • Rejoice Dear Hearts: An Evening with Brother Dave Gardner: a play combining the comedy and true life story of Dave Gardner, one of the South’s most popular comedians.
  • Just Kidding: is a contemporary comedy by Greensboro playwright Scott Icenhower, subsequently performed by theatre groups from Kernersville and Oceana, California
  • The Fabulous Paramounts: The Oldies and Beach Music Musical, a musical tracing the five year-long career of a fictional Carolina Beach Music band
  • Ruthie: a contemporary adaptation of the Old Testament’s Book of Ruth, named winner of the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre’s 2007 “Scriptworks” competition. The play received its professional premiere by SART during their 2008 Summer season.
  • The Last Encampment, a drama of the American Civil War, based on true events in this area in April 1865
  • The Hermit of Ft. Fisher, based on the true-life story of Robert Harrell, the Fort Fisher Hermit.  The play is set for its Southeast North Carolina premiere July 31, 2014 by Big Dawn Productions at the Cape Fear Playhouse in Wilmington, NC.

In addition, PAC has been selected by the authors to produce the fourteen play by the internationally-known writing team of Jones/Hope/Wooten.  The as-yet untitled play is the third installment in the "Verdeen family trilogy" and is set for production at The Paramount, December 18-21, 2014.

Participation in PAC shows is by open audition. Further information can be obtained by calling 336.222.5001 (Dave Wright).
